Autism Types

Numerous types of autism have been recognized and further studies are focusing on the cause of this mental disorder. There are five major types of autism and many more will be defined in near future due to extensive ongoing study on autism.

Autistic Disorder
Rett’s Disorder
Childhood Disintegrative Disorder
Asperger’s Disorder
Pervasive Developmental Disorder

Autistic Disorder

This kind of disorder is caused due to genetic cause and is apparent in more common siblings. Usually the symptoms are visible by the age of three years. There are abnormal impairments in social characteristic, communication skills and repetitive behavior and stereotype actions. This kind of autistic disorder shows improvement if it is diagnosed at right time and given proper medical assistance. It works best at early stage of life as compared to adults who may still suffer and be in pain.

Rett’s Disorder

Genetic inheritance is the reason of this disorder. It is caused due to x chromosomes which affects girls only. In this kind of disorder the head growth slows down as compared to the age. It starts getting prominent and visible from the age of five to six months. During this kind of autistic disorder the child starts behaving in a stereotype manner specially hand movement. For example they behave in a stereotype manner while clapping or flapping their hands. This kind of disorder leads to mental retardation and is carried till adulthood.

Childhood Disintegrative Disorder

This kind of autism occurs when the child had grown up to an age of four years or may be more. In this case males are more affected as compared to females but it can be both as well. Symptoms might be gradual or even abrupt at times. Their receptive skills are lost and they tend to move away from social activity. This kind of disorder is usually having least chances of recovery and the process may be very slow.

Asperger’s Disorder

This kind of autism shows severe cases of social impairments. But on the contrary, this kind of autism shows significant growth in language or even in adaptability. Asperger’s autism shows exceptional talent and one of the example’s would be Albert Einstien. This kind of disorder is the most common amongst all types of autism. Of 10,000 people 35 have this kind of disorder. They might have stereotype nature and would like a particular food. They even tend to avoid eye contacts and do gestures which are probably not required at that moment.

Pervasive Developmental Disorder

This kind of disorder is accumulation of all kind which does not fall in any other category. This kind of disorder may be associated with social and speech problems. Sight or sound as well as sensitivity are associated to this kind of disorder.
